With another arctic blast on its way all I want to do now is go back to the Bahamas.
August 14-18, 2014 I attended the Meeting and Incentive Planners Destination Program hosted by Nassau Paradise Island Promotional Board at the Sandals Royal Bahamian Spa Resort and Offshore Island. This was my forth trip to the island but by far the best experience of all of my trips. The program was educational, entertaining and relaxing.
The Bahamas is a very short flight from the Washington/Baltimore area. Our arrival at the recently renovated airport was a breeze. Departing we were able to go through U.S. customs at the airport in the Bahamas. The process was flawless and it was great not having to experience long lines when arriving back in the States.
We arrived a day early and stayed at Breezes. Billed as the super inclusive playful side of the paradise Breezes hosts a young and vibrant atmosphere blended with island hospitality. There are five meeting rooms which includes a very nice space overlooking the water with the capacity to hold 150 reception style.
Our arrival at Sandals was ultra-sheik with cool towels, a private check-in in their piano bar which was stocked with cocktails and appetizers. Sandals isn’t just for couples. It truly is a great place to host meetings. The staff is attentive and there are so many functional indoor and outdoor spaces for receptions and events.
For the welcome reception and dinner we took a lovely boat ride to the private island as the sun was going down. I’ve never really heard good things about food at an all-inclusive but I have to say the dinner was outstanding! Sandals Royal Bahamian Private Island certainly is a stunning asset of the resort.
The next morning we attended a breakfast presentation about the history and culture of the Bahamas. I have to say this was one of my favorite moments of the program. Learning about the local customs and culture was entertaining and delightful.
We toured a variety of properties all offering completely different atmospheres to include the following:
Comfort Suites Paradise Island: Great for families wanting to budget their stay with nice accommodations while being able to enjoy the amenities of Atlantis.
One & Only Ocean Club: Simply amazing property. This place was made for celebrities. From the mosaic baths to the gardens and the extravagant villas it’s a secluded oasis on the edge of Atlantis.
Atlantis comes equipped with space, entertainment and fun-filled memories. It’s perfect for incentive family groups. The Cove is luxurious, lively but certainly for adults.
British Colonial Hilton is a piece of traditional Bahamas offering unique outdoor space with colonial elegance.
Meliá is situated in the middle of it all with flexible indoor/outdoor space and the Meliá touch.
Baha Mar: Once completed watch out for this mega-luxurious jewel of the Bahamas. Everything is top-notch and there are no details left out.
Overall the networking opportunities and meeting other industry professionals was invaluable. I highly recommend experiencing all the Bahamas has to offer. With the addition of Baha Mar the Bahamas will be the premier meeting and incentive destination of the Caribbean.
